Privacy
Inkpot Lane is a small publisher's website. We don't sell anything here, we don't run ads, and there are no accounts. This page explains the two things the site can collect: visit counts through Google Analytics, and, only if you choose to give it, your email address for the free monthly puzzle pack.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which pages and articles they read, which country and type of device they visit from, how they found the site (for example from Google Search or Pinterest), and whether they click through to a book on Amazon. It helps us decide what to write next and which pages need work.
On the whodunit and puzzle levels pages, Analytics also receives a few game events: a level started or solved, an answer checked (with the name of the made-up suspect chosen and whether it was right), a hint opened, the answer shown, the optional timer switched on, a result copied or shared, and a click to the book or the free puzzle pack. Your game progress itself (guesses, crossed-off names, levels, stars and coins) is saved in your own browser so the page remembers where you were; it is not stored in any account. When the free puzzle pack sign-up form is sent, Analytics counts that it was sent, never the address.
Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology to do this. It gives us counts and trends, not your name, your email or your exact location, and Google Analytics 4 does not store IP addresses. How Google uses the information is set out in Google's own explanation.
The free puzzle pack sign-up
If you type your email address into the sign-up box on the home page or the free puzzles page, it is sent to a Google Form that we own, and Google keeps it in that form's responses for us. We use it for one thing: sending you the monthly puzzle pack, one email a month. We do not sell or share the list. Reply "stop" to any email and we take you off it. The optional box is the only place on the site where you give us anything, and the site works the same if you leave it empty.
How to switch Google Analytics off
- Install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works exactly the same without them.
Links to Amazon
Every "Buy on Amazon" button is a plain link to the book's page on Amazon. We don't use affiliate codes or tracking links. Once you are on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice applies.
Changes
If the site starts collecting anything else, this page will say so first.
