How the levels work
- Free to play, with no sign-up and nothing to buy. Stars, coins and badges are part of the game only: no money value, no prizes, and they cannot be bought.
- Every level is made by a program from its level number, so level 12 is the same puzzle for everyone, and there is no last level: the next one is made when you reach it. Before a puzzle is shown, a second program checks it: in a word search every word appears exactly once; in a whodunit exactly one person fits every clue and every clue is needed.
- The levels grow harder slowly: bigger grids, more directions, decoys and hidden messages in the word searches; more suspects, “if” clues and columns that do not matter in the whodunits. Every tenth level is a milestone with a badge, for solving it without showing the answer.
- Solve a level to open the next one. Stars: three for no hints and no wrong answers, fewer with each one. A hint costs one coin; you earn a coin for each level you solve (three on a milestone). “Show me the answer” is always there and still opens the next level. The day streak counts days on which you solved at least one level.
- No timer unless you switch it on, and it never limits anything.
- Your progress is saved in this browser, not in an account. Clearing this site’s data or a private window erases it.
- We use Google Analytics to see how the puzzles are used. Depending on your browser and privacy settings it receives events such as a level started or solved and a hint used, along with the browser, device and approximate location information it normally collects. See Privacy.
