Who it's for
This is a large print seek and find for adults and seniors who enjoy a quiet puzzle, and for anyone who would rather hunt through a picture than another page of letters. The book says so on its welcome page: no special skill is needed, just look slowly and tick off each find.
Every scene is set in one small, fictional town called Mapleberry, and you spend a year there, from Tulips at Bluebell Florist in spring to Warm Ovens at Miller's Bakery in winter. There is no clock and no score. Every word in the book is set in 16-point type or larger, and every puzzle scene has a whole page to itself.
Inside the book
- Three pages to read first: a welcome to Mapleberry, How to Play, and a little worked example using a corner of Miller's Bakery.
- 48 full-color scenes in four seasonal chapters, 12 to a season: Spring (puzzles 1 to 12), Summer (13 to 24), Autumn (25 to 36) and Winter (37 to 48). A few of the scenes: Tulips at Bluebell Florist, A Rainy Morning at Willow Lane, Sundaes at Penny's Parlor, Fun at the Mapleberry Fair, Quilts at the Patchwork Shop, The Tin Whistle Toy Window and A Visit to Fir Hollow Tree Farm.
- Three levels, clearly marked. Easy puzzles ask for 8 things, Medium for 10 and Tricky for 12. Every season begins with four Easy puzzles, then five Medium and three Tricky. That makes 472 objects to find in all.
- Every object belongs in its scene. The florist hides a watering can, a ribbon spool and a seed packet; the quilt shop hides a pincushion, a quilting hoop and a button jar.
- Picture answer keys at the back that show every scene with each find circled and numbered, with the names listed beside it. Every Tricky scene gets a full page of its own.
- A game on the cover, too: five objects hidden in the front-cover street, with their pictures on the back.
- A Notes page at the very end.
How it works
- Each puzzle is a two-page unit. The left page shows picture cards of everything you are looking for, each one cut from the scene itself, so it looks exactly as it does in the picture. The right page gives the puzzle scene a whole page to itself.
- Find each thing in the big picture, then tick its circle on the card.
- Every object really is there. Each one was checked in the artwork before printing, so if you have not found it yet, it is hiding, not missing. Some sit in plain sight; some tuck themselves behind a basket or under a shelf.
- Stuck? The solutions at the back show exactly where everything is.
If you would like some ways to look, Seek and Find for Adults: How to Look at a Busy Picture covers the habits that make a hidden-object hunt easier and more enjoyable.
How it compares
On a quiet evening you may want a picture to wander through, not another page of letters. Some hidden-object collections move from one setting to another, with a different place to explore from picture to picture. Cozy Main Street is one small town across a whole year: 48 full-page scenes in four seasons, with 472 things to find. What you are looking for is shown as picture cards cut from the scene itself and named in 16-point type, so each find looks exactly as it does in the picture. If one will not show itself, the answer keys circle and number every object.
