Large print word fill-ins are for anyone who likes the look of a crossword but would rather skip the clues, and for anyone choosing a puzzle book for them. Each puzzle gives you an empty criss-cross grid and the full word list. Your job is to place every word across or down so the letters match wherever they meet. You work from lengths and crossings, not trivia questions, and the pleasure is in watching an empty grid fill in.
The print is large all the way through, the book opens with a plain how-to page and a worked example, and every answer is at the back.
What is a word fill-in?
A crossword grid with no clues. You are given every answer as a list, grouped by length, and your job is to work out where each word goes so that all the crossings agree.
How large is the print?
The word lists, the instructions and the page headings are all 16 point or larger, and the letters in the completed answer grids at the back are 16 point too.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes. The book opens with a how-to page and a worked example, and Easy puzzles begin every theme.
Do I need to know a lot of words?
No. Every word you need is printed on the puzzle page, grouped by length, so there are no clues to work out as there would be in a crossword. The words come from each puzzle's theme, such as In the Garden, The Kitchen or The Village.
Do all the puzzles have starter letters?
No. Seventeen of the 112 puzzles have one to three letters already filled in; the other 95 begin with an empty grid. The five solving tips and the worked example at the front show you how to begin with word lengths and crossings.
Are the answers included?
Yes. Every grid is shown filled in at the back of the book.
How big is the book?
8.5 x 11 inches, 146 pages, printed in black ink on white paper.
