• 90 puzzles in three levels. Easy puzzles 1 to 30 are 11 x 11 grids, with words running across, down and diagonally down to the right. Medium puzzles 31 to 60 are 12 x 12 and add words that read backward and diagonally upward. Harder puzzles 61 to 90 are 13 x 13 and use all eight directions.
• Every puzzle page has a Christmas title, a FESTIVE NOTE, the grid, a word list in 16 point type, and two lines to write that page's part of the story.
• The answers, pages 94 to 116, in large print: four to a page, with each part of the story printed under its grid.
• The whole story, printed complete on pages 117 to 119, then a thank-you page from Pine Hollow.

How to use it

• Solve in order. Each hidden message picks up where the one before it stopped.
• Write each message down as you go. The two writing lines on every page let the story build up in your own hand.
• Don't try to read ahead. The message letters are scattered through the grid, never more than 8 side by side, so the story only appears once the words are found.
• Save the last pages for last. The complete story at the back is the reward for finishing.
